History & description
Museum Collection _ Not For Sale
This magnificent sculpture features the powerful Indian deity, Shiva Nataraja, in stunning detail. The figure is carved from ruby in zoisite, giving it a striking coloration and a beautiful, almost luminous quality. Shiva is depicted in the midst of his divine dance, with one foot raised high as he gracefully steps on the head of a dwarf that represents ignorance and negativity. In one hand, he holds a drum, which he beats rhythmically to symbolize the beat of the universe. His other hand is raised in a gesture of blessing and protection. Behind him, a number of cobra snakes are depicted, also dancing in time with the beat of Shiva's drum. The intricate details of the sculpture, from the texture of Shiva's clothing to the intricate design of the snakes' scales, make this piece truly remarkable.
Ruby in zoisite is believed to have metaphysical properties such as energy amplification, emotional healing, spiritual growth, physical healing, creativity, and love and relationships. However, these beliefs are not scientifically proven.
