This exquisite snuff bottle is a true masterpiece of hand-carved artistry. Its smooth surface is adorned with intricate carvings of blooming cherry blossom and tall bamboo trees, creating the illusion of a serene forest. The details of the carvings are so intricate that the petals and leaves of the cherry blossom and the bamboo stalks are distinctively recognizable. Two mystical Qilin are also engraved on each side, holding a ring in their mouths, adding an air of mystery and enchantment to the already stunning piece.
During the Qing Dynasty, snuff bottles were a popular and fashionable accessory among the upper classes. They were used to hold powdered tobacco, which was inhaled through the nose as a form of medicine or for pleasure. The bottles were often made of precious materials, such as amber, and were adorned with intricate carvings or paintings. They were carried on the person and used as a means of displaying wealth and status.
